Young woman thinkingAfter looking into large databases via different companies and businesses we began a search of an online database that was large and used a popular program for databases that many other web driven sites are and focused on LinkedIn.

We found some answers on Quora and testimonials that confirmed two of the most used databases.

Some important queries would be learning how the various data entries (educations, positions, recommendations) are stored.

We use a number of different technologies to support data because different programs require different tools, but there are some main examples that are currently used, particularly with a site that has a large database like LinkedIn.

Dj Patil says, “We also have a number of technologies that we have tried and use. For example we use both Hadoop & Aster Data as analytic layers.  Really the way we deploy the tech is product/project specific.”

Cody Caughlan, “I know that LinkedIn developed “Project Voldemort” – a low-latency distributed key-value storage system. I am going to guess that they store a lot of their profile data in Voldemort and use the RDBMS as the authoritative source, but prefer to hit Voldemort, much like how Facebook uses Cassandra / memcached.”

Oracle and Voldemort were invented at LinkedIn to support many of the user facing products.  Then somewhere near a year ago, all the data was stored in one large and costly Oracle database. Last year, there was a huge engineering project to partition data into different databases, storing the data  as XML which making it compilable with adding profile fields or profiles in multiple languages wouldn’t require a schema change.  Maisy Samuelson says, “Voldemort is mainly used to store analytically-derived data for products like People You May Know. ”
